The Rose of Versailles is a manga series written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda which ran from 1972 to 1973, maybe you know it as Lady Oscar or La Rose de Versailles as it had a wide number of adaptations… and now you can add another one to the list.
According to a statement released by Crunchyroll, in order to celebrate its 50th anniversary of publication, The Rose Of Versailles will get a new theatrical anime movie.
The announcement was accompanied by the opening of its official site and Twitter account, as well as the first key visual, and a teaser trailer; we will leave both below:

The celebration doesn’t end there, an exhibition called “The Rose of Versailles Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of its Birth – Forever the Rose of Versailles –” will open on September 17 in Japan at the Tokyo City View. The exhibition will show teaser visuals, animation character settings, and background settings with selected images published in advance.

If you are not familiar with the manga, you should know that it enjoyed critical and commercial success, being the first shōjo manga to achieve this. If you are curious the manga is currently published in English by Udon Entertainment, while the 1979 TV anime adaptation is currently licensed and distributed by Discotek Media.
