CD Projekt Red insists that The Witcher 3 for next-gen consoles will arrive this year

The free patch that will bring The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to the next generation of consoles has yet to be released, but CD Projekt RED insists that it will arrive in late 2022.

It should have been out by now, but between the end of last year and the start of this one, it was delayed twice, each time for a wide release window that puts it in the fourth quarter of the year. Adam Kiciński, president and CEO of CD Projekt RED, has confirmed that plans to release The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS5 and Xbox X/S Series later this year are still on track.

Kiciński assures that, despite the lack of news, the next-gen patch will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022, implying that it will be available between October 1 and December 31.

This new version of The Witcher 3 was not only delayed twice, but it also changed hands from Saber Interactive (the studio that developed it and was also in charge of adapting the game for the Nintendo Switch) to an internal studio within CD Projekt RED.

The company refused to give a release date at the time, claiming that they needed to re-evaluate the situation and the time required; as a result, a window of the end of the year was set, which still stands today.

The next-generation patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which has sold over 40 million copies, will include graphical and performance enhancements for the PS5 and Xbox X/S Series. Owners of the game will be able to download the enhanced version for free, which will also include DLC inspired by Netflix's The Witcher series.

This version will serve as a prequel to the next game in the series, which is already in development in Unreal Engine 5 intending to introduce a new narrative line to the series.
