Square Enix has confirmed that pre-orders for Dragon Quest Treasures are now open, but there are still a few secrets and features to learn about the new spin-off of the storied JRPG series, which will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch in December 2022.
Speaking of game mechanics, Square Enix and developer TOSE reveal more information about how the recruitment of monsters encountered during the adventure works, as well as what their special abilities Fortes consist of.
The island of Draconia is teeming with creatures who can join our party, proving useful not only in exploring the scenarios in search of treasure but also in battle.
To add one or more monsters to our team, we must first defeat them in combat, then return to the base and take a count of the monsters we defeated along the way. Some of these creatures may decide to join us if they are impressed by our combat prowess.
To complete the recruitment, certain conditions must be met, such as providing them with a certain amount of food and items. If we have the resources to meet their needs, the monsters will join our group and can be used to further the game.
Our allies' rarities are defined by the frame that surrounds their icon, which can be bronze, silver, gold, or rainbow-colored; the latter is the rarest and most difficult monsters to recruit, but they also have exceptional statistics that outperform all other creatures.
In the course of the game, you may also come across special monsters with unique names and characteristics who are eager to join us.
What abilities do these allies have?
Having a varied roster of allies at our disposal is crucial for interacting with the game world in search of treasures, and each of our companions will have a Fortes ability essential for reaching otherwise inaccessible areas. There are five different types:
- Launch - With the Launch Forte, monsters can propel Erik and Mia up into the air, allowing them to reach lofty ledges and platforms that are too high to climb.
- Glide - Monsters with the Glide Forte can use their wings or jet boosters to help Erik and Mia float softly down from high places or ride on air currents to reach distant areas.
- Sprint -The Sprint Forte allows for rapid traversal of the terrain. Each monster moves at a different speed and has a different level of stamina for carrying Erik and Mia.
- Stealth - With the Stealth Forte, the monster dives into the ground with Erik or Mia - perfect for passing through very low entrances and staying out of enemy sight.
- Scan - When the Scan Forte is triggered, any nearby foraging points will be highlighted and the number of crafting materials available at each one will be shown.
Thanks to these features, Dragon Quest Treasures promises to be a complex and varied adventure, and we look forward to discovering more secrets from the gameplay in the months leading up to its release on Nintendo Switch.
