These studios put the Latinx pride up high in the video game industry

In the video game industry, there is a well-known fact regarding the big names that often bring the most popular titles worldwide. So naturally, this comes across as discouraging, but all in all, not shocking. Most (if not all) of the video game industry giants come from either Europe, North America, or Asia.

Where are the Latin studios at?

Luckily, these times are proving to be different. Over the last few years, more and more Latin video game studios have entered the “biz” with quality projects. If you haven’t heard of them, here are some great examples of Latin representation in the video game industry:

Ironhide Game Studio (Uruguay)

The studio started with just three friends sharing the dream of working on something they were passionate about, making video games. Ironhide has proven to be a strong company since it began almost a decade ago.

Ironhide is the creator of the Kingdom Rush franchise, the project that allowed them to dabble in mobile gaming. This considerable success led to an essential agreement with Apple and a unique spin-off of the saga for the Apple Arcade service. So now the franchise can be found on Nintendo Switch!

HyperBeard Games (Mexico)

Mexican studio HyperBeard is a highly revered mobile game developer and publisher specializing in organic marketing and retention optimization and has helped several games achieve stellar performance, including Tsuki Adventure & Adorable Home.

HyperBeard also developed the well-known franchises, KleptoCats & Clawbert. If you haven’t played any of them, you should try at least KleptoCats once. Cuteness meets farming; and, of course, cats.

Dreams Uncorporated (Colombia)

If you recall, in 2021, Dreams Uncorporated's Cris Tales was released on every platform. Cris Tales is a gorgeous, indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective. Peer into the past, act in the present, and watch as your choices dynamically change the future.

This title is an excellent example of how the same projects that would gain immense fame in Asia or Europe could also come from a Latin studio.

Lienzo (Mexico)

This Mexican studio became insanely famous for telling its story from a different point of view. Literally. Mulaka is a game about the Tarahumara, a community settled in Chihuahua, Mexico, where the studio is also based. This title explores indigenous Mexican culture with spectacular visuals.

This approach to storytelling was so well-received that we’re now expecting their next installment, Aztech Forgotten Gods, an action game that reimagines the Aztec Empire in a modern and almost futuristic vision.

Ace Team (Chile)

ACE Team is a Chilean video game developer based in Santiago. The company, founded in the late 1990s by brothers Andres, Carlos, and Edmundo Bordeu, started by developing total conversions before turning to commercial game development.
The independent studio is internationally acclaimed for its unique titles, achieving several notable industry awards worldwide.

Ace Team gained more prominence with Rock of Ages, a rock-solid action-strategy game where you roll giant boulders of destruction in different periods and where you must face off the most significant characters of history in hilarious battles.
