Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, 5th highest grossing anime film of all time

A great time for anime productions

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has been enjoying great popularity and it shows as recently Crunchy Roll informed that the movie is a complete success, becoming the #5 highest-grossing anime film of all time. So far the movie grossed $30.8M and surpassed Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2019) which made $30.7M throughout its theatrical run. Making the latest Dragon Ball movie even more profitable than the last.

This is not all, the movie claimed the #1 spot at the global box office at its opening weekend while also receiving the widest theatrical release ever for Crunchyroll in North America thanks to its partnership with Sony Pictures, with 3,900 screens booked, including premium formats like IMAX.

Breaking records!

Thanks to its overwhelming success in movie theatres, Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO, Crunchyroll now has ten of the top 20 highest-grossing anime films in U.S. history, including the ones under the Funimation brand, an incredible milestone for the streaming service platform.

While is incredibly difficult to climb to number four on this list, the Dragon Ball Super movie has the chance to grow its profits even further as its theatrical run is still far from over.

The list for high-grossing anime movies currently holds Pokémon: The First Movie - Mewtwo Strikes Back at #1 with a lifetime gross of $85.7M, followed by Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- the Movie: Mugen Train ($49.5M), Pokémon the Movie 2000 ($43.7M) and JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 ($34.5M).

In case you need to think it twice to watch it, the official Crunchy Roll description reads:

The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. These two Androids call themselves “Super Heroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!
