Yakuza creator wants his next game to ''be like a Tarantino film''

A mixture of violence and humor well blended

Toshihiro Nagoshi has not spoken publicly about his next project since leaving SEGA. Now that he has, the former Yakuza franchise director has hinted that his new title will be as outlandish as a Quentin Tarantino film.

He was the head of the Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, which had been renamed due to the importance of the Yakuza license over the years.

Toshihiro Nagoshi announced his departure from SEGA last September, and we learned in early January that he had formed his new company, Nagoshi Studio, within the Chinese group NetEase.

The German website 4Players published an interview with Nagoshi in which he reveals some details about his new game, but not too much. We learn that the main core of the Yakuza series should be preserved in Nagoshi Studio's first title.

“Of course, I can’t reveal too much about our game yet, but I can give a rough idea: It will definitely contain violence as a game element, but I don’t want to go too much in the direction of thriller or even horror,” as translated by VGC.

“I want my game to be more like a Quentin Tarantino film – so there can be humor. Something that’s just intimidating or just bloody and brutal doesn’t suit my taste – I want a human touch, a bit of silliness, and a bit of seriousness, that’s what I’m in the mood for at the moment,” he added.

When asked about when to expect new information and details about the studio's new title, Nagoshi hinted that maybe fans won't have to wait long:

“Again, I have to be vague. But it’s like this: If I have an idea and want to release it – then it soon bubbles out of me. I’m not the type who can hold something like that back for long. So, you probably won’t have to wait too much longer…. Or rather: I think I will go public with it much sooner than other developers would!”
