Cult of the Lamb, this indie proposal released on August 11, has achieved more than 1 million players in its first launch week. For those who do not know about this new title, it is a video game developed by Massive Monsters and published by Devolver Digital. It has received an excellent response due to its fun and addictive gameplay in which you have the objective of creating a cult.
This indie is available for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, but... where is Xbox Game Pass? That is something that many have wondered about because, as it is an indie game with a good history, many players consider its absence in this service strange.
WHY IS CULT OF THE LAMB NOT ON THE XBOX GAME PASS?
As some know, things are a bit tense between Sony and Microsoft since Microsoft, as part of the purchase of Activision and Blizzard, Brasil has been investigating this acquisition. In this process, many interesting details have been revealed. Here, the Redmond company accused Sony of paying developers so that titles do not reach the Xbox Game Pass service.
So, Gary Whitta, speaking on the Kinda Funny Games Daily YouTube series, mentioned that this successful title is not on Game Pass for this very reason.
"Somebody told me that part of the reason why [Cult of the Lamb] is not on Game Pass is Sony paid [the developer] not to put it on Game Pass," Whitta said to Blessing Adeoye (via ResetEra). "It will then incentivize you not to do additional subscriber deals with competing platforms."
Microsoft recently accused Sony of playing these dirty tricks, paying to sabotage their service. Also, remember that Sony had expressed concern about the purchase of Microsoft as they commented that the acquisition would affect PlayStation, especially if titles like Call of Duty made them exclusive.
Microsoft says: "Considering that exclusivity strategies have been at the core of Sony's strategy to strengthen its presence in the games industry and that Sony is a leader in the distribution of digital games, Sony's concern with possible exclusivity of Activision's content is inconsistent, to say the least.
"Microsoft's ability to continue expanding Game Pass has been obstructed by Sony's desire to inhibit such growth. Sony pays for 'blocking rights' to prevent developers from adding content to Game Pass and other competing subscription services."
After all these accusations, Devolver Digital has had to clarify this and pointed out that "this is absolutely false." Sony did not pay the title developers not to be on Microsoft's service; they had their own reasons for not having their title there.
