If you ever felt like a witch inside of you and suddenly had the urge to escape into the woods and scare the local children, here is something that might interest you.
The cottage-building game Reka is the debut project of German studio Emberstorm Entertainment. Through the game’s Twitter account, the studio has been revealing what appears to be a very witchy and spooky space ready to be brought to life.
Here's a sneak peek on how you're going to build your house on chicken legs! 🐓😊

According to the game’s website, Reka is an atmospheric base-building game set in late 19th century rural Europe. You play as an herb witch and travel the countryside with your self-built chicken-legged cottage. Collect magical and mundane ingredients in forests, fields, and swamps. Craft medicine and magic supplies to heal and aid local villagers. Expand your fantastical home and make it yours by decorating and customizing it with progressively new crafting stations, furniture, and decorations.
"We based the world of Reka on the Slavic mythology, especially that of the Slavs of eastern Germany," Emberstorm's Tobias Hermann explains. Reka's countryside is covered with explorable fields and forests in autumnal colors, sprinkled with small villages and wildlife—the mythic not-too-distant past of Emberstorm's home in Berlin.
"We have also implemented a lot of the Slavic witchcraft lore. The combined result of the two is that you, as the player character, are the apprentice of Baba Jaga, and you inherited her chicken-legged house to travel the world and work as a wayfaring witch, fulfilling contracts to aid or curse people and mythological creatures."
So, a pretty witchy game, if you ask me. Not so challenging, kind of aspiring. A peaceful setting where you will display your cats, herbs, and grimoire as you’ve ever dreamed of. A witches’ dream, if you as me. Unfortunately, Emberstorm hasn’t revealed release plans, consoles, or platforms that will receive Reka, or even demos, early access, and all those matters. Hopefully, we will be hearing more about Reka very soon!
