Thanks to Nexus Mods, the latest Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered title has been targeted for anti-LGBTQ+ controversy after releasing a mod that could replace Pride flags with American flags.
This is why, from now on, any mod that infringes upon inclusion will be automatically banned. After these allegations, a blog post was found on Nexus Mods’ site with a very strict inclusivity declaration, adding that anyone who attempts against diversity would be banned. Anyone disagreeing with this policy was (not so) kindly invited to delete their accounts.
The author of the flag mod, who hid under the alias "Mike Hawk," was banned from Nexus Mods completely and had their mod quickly removed from the site, prompting many to debate the morality of the move.
Nexus Mods owner Robin Scott has addressed the controversy:
“Recently, there's been some silly drama on our site that was sparked by someone uploading a mod for Spider-Man Remastered," says Scott. “The mod replaced the very few Pride flags the game has with the already prevalent USA flag texture from the game. The mod was removed from Nexus Mods, and the author was banned.”
"We've now explained our stance, and we won't be providing a platform for you to distort our position to feed an irrational and paranoid narrative. You can do that elsewhere, where we won't care enough to read it. If this policy upsets you if we've broken some moral code of conduct as a business that you can't accept, please delete your account and move on, as we will."
On the bright side, many mods left to use are pretty harmless and don’t attempt against the LGBTQ+ community. Some of the most random mods people have stumbled upon allow them to swing across New York as Mary Jane, Kingpin, and Black Cat, but the crown goes for a mod that lets players beat up thugs as Uncle Ben's tombstone (lol, wtf).
