Reggie Fils-Aime confessed that Nintendo was working on a very ambitious controller

It really doesn’t matter if Reggie Fils-Aime has been retired for more than three years now, he is now living his best life, and that hasn’t stopped him from still sharing some insider info from Nintendo.

Just recently, Reggie confessed that a while back, Nintendo was working on its own kind of “universal” controller that worked on other consoles. Pretty much like the Xbox Adaptive Controller, this gadget would have been a platform-agnostic beauty.

During an interview with Inverse, Reggie described the Xbox Adaptive Controller "as a jumping-off point to create something that would be platform-agnostic and adaptable by any consumer.”

Imagine an adaptive controller that you could play with your latest Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo platform," he explained. "That's what we were working on three years ago."

THE FUTURE LOOKED GREAT A WHILE BACK

Three years ago, he said. Sadly, we still haven’t heard anything from the controller (regarding a launch announcement or similar.) Of course, we know that Nintendo’s best-kept secrets eventually turn out to be unique announcements, but this one is apparently still under the radar.

"My hope is that the effort has continued. I'm not sure if it has or has not," he added. "But also, my hope is that controller - and the ability for that controller to connect with all of the various systems - is launched and shared with consumers as quickly as possible. I believe the best solution is an industry solution that can work for all of the dedicated gaming platforms and for PC and can be tailored to the player depending on their physical capabilities and what they can do."

This cross-platform controller surely sounds like perfection, but it’s a mystery whether it will actually come out or not. In the meantime, let’s unite our prayers to the deity of your preference, and let’s hope this controller sees the light of day sometime in the future.
