After 23 years without a sequel, Fatal Fury returns!

SNK revives one of its biggest fighting franchises

Unbeknownst to most, SNK has announced the development of a new title in the Fatal Fury franchise and has released a trailer featuring the first concept art for this upcoming installment.

In the trailer, we see Rock Howard, one of the series' most beloved characters, looking out of the corner of his eye and a massive dark city in front of him.

The announcement, made on Twitter by the official SNK Global account, reads: ''Legends never die... After more than 20 years, FATAL FURY / GAROU is coming back! Finally, the long-awaited sequel became green-lit!''

It took 23 years for a new Fatal Fury to be announced, as the previous installment, Mark of the Wolves, was released at the end of 1999. Fatal Fury was the first game released by SNK for the NEO GEO systems.

The King of Fighters tournament was introduced in the first iteration of this title, called Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, which would later give the name to The King of Fighters saga and would be the spiritual successor to Fatal Fury.

Following the release of The King of Fighters XV and the announcement of the upcoming Street Fighter 6, classic fighting games from the 1990s appear to be reviving the genre.

Not only that, but other popular 1990s titles, such as Streets of Rage 4 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, are making a comeback.

There is no more information about the new title or when it will be released. We can see the signature of Aki Senno, Tonko, who was the artist behind games like The Last Blade, King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, and Metal Slug, in specific frames of the trailer.
