A new and promising beginning on the horizon?

For years, Marvel and Disney have given us a master class on how to properly introduce and establish various of their superheroes and villains through interconnected stories, the famously successful Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It is not a perfect model, but it is certainly has proven to be successful and durable.

After the extraordinary impact of the MCU, some companies have tried to emulate this model without much success, and today we have learned of another that will seek to implement it in the best possible way, DC Comics.

The new plan for DC

After a long time of uncertainty, the future of DC Comics characters on the big screen seems much clearer thanks to Warner Bros. Discovery's ideas.

During Warner Bros. Discovery’s quarterly financials, CEO David Zaslav answered some questions about the company’s future, revealing that the company decided to do a "reset" and follow a ten-year plan for DC similarly to what Disney and Kevin Feige have done for Marvel with the MCU.

“We have done a reset. We’ve restructured the business where we’re going to focus, where there will be a team with a ten-year plan focusing just on DC,” Zaslav said. “It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together very effectively with Kevin Feige at Disney.”

According to Zaslav, the hope is to create a long-term and much stronger sustainable growth business out of DC, adding that the company will focus on quality instead of quantity.

“We’re not going to release any film before it’s ready. The focus is going to be ‘how do we make each of these films, in general, as good as possible?’"

The CEO claims the company is very excited about films like Black Adam, Shazam, and Flash as films the company are all very excited about. “We’ve seen them. We think they’re terrific, and we think we can make them even better.”
