Released for Nintendo 3DS in 2012, Kid Icarus: Uprising marked the return of the series starring Pit after a very long absence, through an adrenaline-charged shooter that established itself among the most impressive exclusives of the Nintendo handheld console. Since then, however, the brand has once again disappeared into thin air.
The game remains a Nintendo 3DS exclusive, second-hand copies are expensive, and with the closure of the eShop, it will soon be even more difficult for fans to get their hands on the game.
However, a new rumor from well-known Nintendo insider Zippo suggests that Kid Icarus: Uprising could be getting a second chance at life in the form of a Nintendo Switch port or remaster.
Zippo has made some accurate predictions in the past, claiming that Bandai Namco is working on a Kid Icarus: Uprising Remaster for Switch. According to the insider, this remaster will include a new control scheme and improved graphics. It will also reportedly retain the original's online multiplayer functionality.
Bandai Namco and Nintendo have a strong working relationship, and beyond that, Bandai Namco has worked directly with Masahiro Sakurai on the Super Smash Bros saga.
With this in mind, it's likely that if a remaster is in development, Nintendo could rely on Bandai Namco. However, the company had to switch studios while developing Metroid 4 and left it in the hands of Retro Studios.
Zippo claims that the Remaster will arrive throughout 2023, although there are no further details on the release window. At this point, we can only wait for an upcoming Nintendo Direct for some official confirmation.
Kid Icarus: Uprising takes place in a world loosely based on Greek mythology. Pit, an angel serving the Goddess of Light Palutena, is sent on missions against the Goddess of Darkness Medusa, who threatens to destroy humanity.
