Killzone Mercenary and Killzone Shadow Fall servers shutdown

On August 12, online features will cease to work

Sony announced the shutdown of the Killzone Mercenary, Killzone Shadow Fall, and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League servers. Bad news for those who still enjoy the online features of these games, who will have to switch to purely offline mode.

Guerrilla Games, responsible for the saga and the most recent Horizon Forbidden West, also talked about this on social media. In addition to announcing the closure of the servers of the mentioned Killzone titles, the study also indicates that the modes that do not need to connect to the internet will continue to be available and, therefore, will become the only modes with which they enjoy those titles.

This decision has made a good part of the community that loves the saga wonder if we will ever see something new from Killzone. With the success and popularity of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, it looks like it will take a while to fight the Helghast again, but only time will tell.

If we look back, Hermen Hulst, the former president of Guerrilla and now the head of PlayStation's Worldwide Studios, talked about this franchise in a 2017 interview for Interactive: “I get asked that question [about the future of Killzone] a lot through Twitter and other social media channels,” he stated.

“It hasn’t been easy doing something so completely different. Whether or not we’ve put a permanent period behind the series, it’s too early to make announcements on that.''

It seems that Guerrilla wants to continue betting on the Horizon saga and Aloy's adventure. So much so that, in addition to the success of Horizon Forbidden West, which recently received its first GOTY award and an update to improve its performance at 120 Hz, the saga will soon receive a television adaptation called Horizon 2074, which would have part of the team from other productions such as The Boys and The Expanse.
