OMG! The new trailer for FIFA 23 revealed a fantastic cross-play feature

At last, we will be able to play FIFA with our friends regardless of the console we own

Well, the first trailer for FIFA 23 is out. The community is looking forward to this title more than any other FIFA title that has come before. Why? Because it will be the last one from the franchise as we know it. After FIFA 23, EA will take the game elsewhere (although we’re still not sure how different this title could really be) with the upcoming EA Sports FC.

Today, the FIFA 23 reveal trailer was shared through EA Sports’s YouTube Channel, bringing out fascinating info on the upcoming title:

Wow. Tons of fantastic cinematics that always hype FIFA fans worldwide. Mbappè and Sam Kerr make their obligated appearance as the future covers of the game. Some gameplay is shown, and of course, the wildly anticipated women’s club football and men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup are coming to this title. And like previous releases, EA delivers the promise of better animation features, this time with the HyperMotion2 Technology (that we will find out if it’s really an enhancement once it comes out.)

FIFA 23 will launch this fall for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. You can already pre-order FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition by August 21 to get a FIFA World Cup™ FUT Hero item and up to three days of early access!

But that’s no the best part.

The reveal trailer unveiled something that most FIFA players had expected for many, many years: cross-play! Finally, the cross-play feature will allow players to compete and play with friends and opponents on different platforms (of the same generation) in various online game modes. At first, it feels like great news for those who waited so much for the feature to arrive. But, unfortunately, said feature is coming on the last FIFA title. Maybe it’s a way to hint at what the EA Sports FC will be like; maybe it’s just a farewell detail. Who knows.

Here is an overview of the upcoming Cross-play mode we’ll find at FIFA 23:

Following the cross-play test in FIFA 22 to Online Friendlies and Online Seasons, we’re expanding on the availability of cross-play to more game modes for FIFA 23 and increasing the number of included platforms.

In FIFA 23, cross-play will be available for players on the same platform generation. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia, and PC versions of FIFA 23 will be cross-play compatible with one another, and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of FIFA 23 will be cross-play compatible with one another.

In FIFA 23, cross-play will be available at launch in FUT Division Rivals (except Co-Op), FUT Champions, FUT Ultimate Online Draft, FUT Online Friendlies (except Co-Op), FUT Play a Friend, Online Friendlies, Online Seasons (except Co-Op Seasons) and the Virtual Bundesliga competitive game mode that is available to players based in Germany. Cross-play is initially enabled for all players when launching FIFA 23 for the first time, provided the platform level settings allow for it, and it can be opted out of at any time (more on that later in this article).

We want to ensure our product innovation is delivered at quality. Because of the technical intricacies of implementing cross-play, modes that pair players together, such as Pro Clubs, will not feature cross-play at this time.

Remember that cross-play availability can potentially be impacted on a platform-by-platform basis by things like planned or unplanned maintenance, server releases, Title Updates, unexpected downtime, or matchmaking updates.
