Baby Yoda accused of being "Completely Stolen"

Joe Dante, Director of Gremlins, claims that Disney copied Gizmo for they character

Filmmaker Joe Dante, Director of the 1984 hit Gremlins and its 1990 sequel, attacked Disney and Lucasfilm for taking uncredited inspiration from his work in creating Baby Yoda. Since the premiere of The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda (Grogu) won over fans and non-fans of Star Wars due to its charisma and delicate appearance; however, Dante is not so captivated by the character.

Joe thinks that Baby Yoda is nothing more than a plagiarism of Gizmo, the protagonist of his film, who has an appearance and attitude quite similar to the character of Disney's show. In a recent interview, he mentions that Gizmo from Gremlins is essentially a baby, so Dante thinks Baby Yoda is "stolen and a shameless copy"

Both characters share some characteristics in their designs. Grogu and Gizmo are small, have big ears, eyes, and somewhat clumsy movements. Their personalities are also similar. They both exploit tenderness and innocence, being a counterweight to the dark background of their entries.

Despite his statements, Joe Dante points out that he is not entirely angry with Disney or The Mandalorian for the plagiarism of Baby Yoda. He's not going to sue or ask for the character to be changed so that he doesn't look like Gizmo anymore.

Do you think these characters look the same? Let us know in the comments!
