PlayStation has officially acquired Bungie

As $3.6B deal closes

A few months ago, Sony confirmed they would be absorbing the creators of Destiny, Bungie, in an official statement revealed through their social networks. And now, after reaching the end of the agreements, they can finally announce that the company that gave birth to Halo is now part of the ranks of Sony.

Under the terms of the $3.6 billion deal, announced in January and closed on July 15, Bungie joins the PlayStation Studios network as an independent subsidiary of SIE. It will retain its previous management team and executive board, with Pete Parsons keeping his spot as CEO.

This news was released through the official Twitter account of the Japanese company, with a message welcoming them to the team just like they did other companies, which is why fans are excited about what these creators can deliver on consoles in the future

What does this acquisition mean for Sony?

Bungie assures that titles like Destiny 2 will remain cross-platform, which means that Bungie's role in the company is yet to be known.

Parsons called the acquisition a “big, bold step forward,” saying that the company’s vision is to “make Bungie the best place anyone in the entertainment industry will ever work.”

This purchase comes after the acquisition of Haven Studios, and gamers are wondering which will be the following major study the brand racks up in its collection.
