Wait, what? Full Circle confirms that the new Skate will be free-to-play!

It will be available on both next and last-generation consoles. And even on mobile!

"skate.", in lowercase and with a period, will be the name of the new game in the series, which until now, and in the absence of an official name, we kept referring to as Skate 4.

The developers in charge of the project, Full Circle Studio have published a new video where they have broken down the reason for that name, which contains much more than it may seem at first: it is not a numbered installment because it is a living project that will be updated over the years with the help of the community.

Skate. will be a completely free game, since it will include microtransactions that they have assured will be respectful of the gaming experience. No loot boxes, blocked map areas, or gameplay advantages, of course, since they ensure not wanting to turn the game into a pay-to-win title. The references are at home: Apex Legends, also published by Electronic Arts, is one of the optional purchase models that Full Circle is looking at for its game.

Available on last-generation consoles and mobile devices

Full Circle has confirmed that skate. will not only be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but also on PS4 and Xbox One, and they are even exploring a mobile version. All will feature cross-play and cross-progress.

It will also have seasons, or at least that is clear from the words of one of those responsible for the project, the person in charge of product management Isabelle Mocquard, who mentions "many seasonal updates".

The idea for this new title is to be "a game to come back to" and discover new ways to play and interesting twists, always based on the requests and opinions of the community. "There will be no Skate from 4 to 10," says Cuz Parry, creative director, referring to the decision to scrap numbered installments.

About the launch date, Full Circle say that, although they still do not have an exact day, the project is in the early stages of development. Their intention is to integrate the community from the beginning; something that they made clear recently, after opening registrations so fans could sign up for the first Alpha tests of the game. They also talked about not wanting to anticipate the release date and set unrealistic goals, so they say it will come out "when it's ready''.
