We live in a very confusing and complicated time with climate change. This topic has become so controversial that we can’t ignore it so quickly (and clearly, we shouldn’t). Climate change has even divided the world according to their beliefs (if this is a real thing or not). And well, I do not mean to offend anyone, but what is happening with our environment right now is confirmed and a very delicate situation that we’re witnessing worldwide. It has the four seasons acting like they’re drunk, having snow in the middle of the desert, and drought during April showers. And while many of us do our best to change our habits and be as green as we can, it is not enough. We must persuade big companies to unite and make a significant difference.

This is where Minecraft comes in. As you may recall, The Wild Update was released a few weeks ago. In case you didn’t know it yet, one of the new biomes is a mangrove swamp. And yes, like many of the landscapes in Minecraft, this was also a place inspired by a real one. But this location, in particular, was created for a more significant reason.

Mojang Studios has just announced an inspiring initiative that marks another step towards making a fundamental change in our environment. To support our shared vision of building a better world, the development studio announced that they would be donating $200K to The Nature Conservancy to protect mangroves. According to an official news release, the company also mentioned: “We have partnered with Everbloom Games to bring you a free map, Rooted Together, which you can play to have fun and learn about mangroves!”

This is just a step toward a more significant difference. And even though it won’t save us from climate change tomorrow, actions like these can inspire others to do so.
