Aztec Batman is real and is coming to HBO Max

An unexpected collaboration

According to Variety, HBO Max Latin America has unveiled an unexpected collaboration that will bring to life Aztec Batman. The new project is the work of Warner Bros. Animation, Particular Crowd, Mexico’s Anima and “Book of Life” producer Chatrone.

This story will introduce us to Yohualli Coatl a young Aztec boy whose father, village leader Toltecatzin, is murdered by Spanish Conquistadors. Coatl flees to Tenochtitlan and with the help Acatzin his mentor and assistant; he trains and develops equipment and weaponry to confront the Spaniard invasion, protect Moctezuma’s temple, and avenge his father’s death. Clearly, this borrows a lot from Batman’s origin story which may guarantee you a good time.

The project was announced Monday at a cocktail event held at the 37th Guadalajara Int’l Film Festival (FICG). Also, it was noted that the production will take place entirely in Mexico and showcase top local talent.

Everything is under control

Sam Register and Tomás Yankelevich serve as executive producers and Alejandro Díaz Barriga, an expert on Mesoamerican studies and the ethnic history of Mexico and the Andean region, will work closely with the creative team to guarantee a correct representation.

A release date and trailer are yet to be announced, however, when additional information comes out we will update this article.
