Is it worth playing it?

We have heard in recent weeks about the new game MultiVersus, which deals with platform fights very much in the style of Super Smash Bros. However, this time we will see the characters from Warner Bros and DC Comics fight each other.

The game is still in development, but the Closed Alpha is available. To get it, you must register on the game's official website and hopefully wait for the code to arrive to obtain it on the platform of your choice.

WHAT WERE THE FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

When you open the game, you can see an excellent design quality, and it is very visually aesthetic. Fortnite influences it since its lobby has a similar structure, colors, character drawing, and menu design.

First, you must complete the first tutorial, where they show you the different combos and abilities of Shaggy's character. You will immediately notice the number of possible combos of the character, making him more dynamic, fast, and fluid.

Once you finish the tutorial, you will be able to choose games with bots, online or custom, and select the game mode: 1vs1, in teams (it is the recommended one), cooperative or four-player chaos.

Fifteen different characters were available in the Alpha, five unlockable characters, such as Batman and Superman. Something characteristic of the characters is that they have different roles, very similar to shooter games. There are tanks, assassins, thugs, and support. This difference adds an exciting dynamic to a fighting game.

Each character can be upgraded, like in the Dead by Dealight video game, where you can add different abilities to each fighter. You can only use these skills in the character you are leveling up.

HOW WAS THE FIGHTING EXPERIENCE?

In the rounds, you play in a team, two against two, the blue and red teams each take the characters out of the platform to score points, and the first to reach four points in total wins the game.

Testing the game on PC with PlayStation 4 controller, to begin with, it was pretty easy to get familiar with the combat style quickly, despite not being Smash-like. However, maybe the previous experience with this style of play and combat made it not difficult to get used to.

The fighting style of the characters is different from other games; something noticeable was the number of consecutive combos you can make against another to try to get them off the platform; also, the fighting movements felt quite fluid and fast. If we compare it with a fluid style and starting speed with other games, I would put it in the middle between Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate because it was pretty easy to make the characters fly like in Melee. Still, in quickness, it was more like Ultimate.

Something important to highlight is the sound and visual aspect; in the game, we will be able to listen to the soundtrack, the blows of the characters, and the phrases of each of them. Here you can also clearly see the high budget that the game has taken, compared to another game with the same proposal like this one, the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, where the characters' voices were missing. Probably due to lack of budget.

Visually it was also quite attractive. The visual effects on each hit or ability adorned it well and added excitement to the player when making combos.

HOW WERE THE CHARACTERS?

They all have good abilities, but you can also notice that some characters are more potent than others. Since it is difficult to get used to specific ones due to abilities and combos, sometimes some were more complex, or you needed to be more accustomed to the Battle style to master it easier.

Certain characters have unique abilities and unusual combinations, such as Vilma; it was quite an experience. Her fighting style was very different from other games. Still, there were also others that the technique was similar to certain Smash characters, for example, Finn from Adventure Time, his style was similar to that of Link from The Legend of Zelda, or Garnet was similar to that of Little Mac with a mixture of Ganondorf because of how powerful his fists could be.

The general experience in the games was positive. It is very entertaining and, to a certain extent, very addictive to play.

Something important to mention is that all the online games took seconds to start; everything was very fluid, very fast, with a lot of quality, and absolutely no lag.

IS IT BETTER TO PLAY WITH A CONTROLLER OR WITH A KEYBOARD?

Although we tested with a PlayStation 4 controller by connecting it and recognizing the device right away, we also tried it with a keyboard to analyze the fighting style and how comfortable it would be.

The keyboard fighting style was impressive. One would think that with a platform fighting style, the keyboard would not be the best ally; however, there was no issue using the keyboard and mouse; the controls were very strategically well placed to perform combos without difficulty with the keyboard.

WHAT DID WE NOT LIKE, AND WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED?

In the entire experience, there was only one concern and one complaint. The concern is the balance between characters since, as previously mentioned, there are characters with better skills than others. Still, the problem would be to see how they can solve the balance in the games once the improvements and additional skills are added to each one when you level up since testing it with skills does make a noticeable difference in the game, making the character feel even more powerful.

The only complaint was the maps, there are some very attractive visually, but they were mostly basic designs. They could add more interesting ones since with the quality that the game is presenting; the maps should not be left behind in that same quality.

IS IT RECOMMENDED TO PLAY MULTIVERSUS?

Undoubtedly. The game will be free to play with triple-A quality in addition to crossplay, battle pass, store, missions, and more.

It will be a very accessible game. You can see the great potential it has. It has a very high quality, and it shows that it has a large budget and a very well-thought-out strategy and combat style. Also, you can see the potential it will have for qualifying tournaments.

If you are thinking of trying the game, we remind you that an Open Beta will be available very soon in July.
