Ryan Gosling is one of the most recognized actors today, as we recently saw him starring in the successful Barbie movie alongside Margot Robbie; however, throughout his extensive professional career, he led projects that failed at the box office.

One of the actor's best films is The Nice Guys, an action comedy in which he plays a detective who must work with Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) to solve a case. Although it received positive reviews and currently boasts a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it had a commercial performance below expectations.

According to Box Office Mojo data, the 2016 film had a budget of $50 million but only grossed $62 million worldwide. Actor Ryan Gosling was candid and revealed that a film adaptation of a popular video game affected the box office of his project.

After starring in Barbie, the famous 43-year-old actor returns to the big screen this year with The Fall Guys, another action comedy in which he shares credits with Emily Blunt and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. During a recent interview as part of the film's promotional tour, he took a brief moment to talk about the sequel to The Nice Guys.

In a conversation with ComicBook, the actor confessed that it seems unlikely that the 2016 movie will have a sequel. One of his main arguments is that the box office was unfavorable due to The Angry Birds Movie, the film adaptation of the popular mobile game that grossed $352,333,929 USD and was released practically at the same time.

"I think a big part of a sequel is decided by a movie's opening weekend, and we opened against Angry Birds. So it just destroyed us. Angry Birds did get a sequel," commented Ryan Gosling.

To put it in context, The Nice Guys grossed $11,203,270 USD on its opening weekend in the US, while the Angry Birds movie conquered the domestic box office and generated $38,155,177 USD on its debut.

Although the action film never had a sequel, its creators had some interesting ideas to continue the story. In an interview with the KFC Radio podcast, actor Russell Crowe joked about the possibility of the plot moving to Mexico. "It's Ryan and me, and somehow, we have to pretend we're Mexican detectives," he commented.

But tell us, are you a fan of this movie? Would you have liked to see a sequel?
