One Piece: Netflix makes a major signing for the series' Season 2

Sources revealed an approximate date for the start of shooting

Season 1 of the One Piece live-action series was approved by fans of the anime and manga. For such reason, Netflix soon gave the green light to the production of a second season that will continue the adventures of the Straw Hats.

After months of silence, details about the production of the new episodes were finally revealed and there is good news. Netflix made an important signing for the creative team and, in addition, there is already a tentative date for the shooting of Season 2.

According to recent reports, Netflix hired a creative standout to be the new showrunner for the series. We're referring to Joe Tracz, a writer known for his recent work on Percy Jackson and the Gods of Olympus and other productions.

The good news is that Tracz will not replace Matt Owens -writer, executive producer and one of the showrunners of Season 1 - as they will work together on the new episodes. On the other hand, Steve Maeda, the other showrunner of the first episodes, will now be executive producer.

Another important fact is that Season 2 of One Piece will start shooting in July and will run for several months, probably until early next year. The goal is for the new episodes to premiere in 2025, on a date yet to be confirmed.

“I’ve been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series, and they don’t come bigger or more beloved than One Piece. I’m a huge fan of Oda-san’s incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in Season 1. So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season 2,” stated Tracz.
